How to Store & Prepare Sea Moss for Maximum Freshness and Benefits
Caribbean Sea Moss is one of the most powerful natural superfoods on the planet—but like anything sacred and alive with minerals, it deserves a little care. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to store, prepare, and preserve your wildcrafted Sea Moss so you get the most out of every strand.
Whether you’re brand new to Seamoss or just need a refresher, you’re in the right place.
How to Store Dried Sea Moss
When your Seamoss arrives from SEVA, it will be:
-
Raw and wildcrafted
-
Sun-dried
-
Naturally covered in sea salt
This traditional preservation method keeps the Sea Moss mineral-rich and shelf-stable for a long time.
Storage tips:
-
Keep in an airtight container or sealed bag
-
Store in a cool, dry place (like a pantry or cupboard)
-
Keep it away from moisture to avoid early spoilage, if your sea moss gets a little moist, place it in the sun and allow it to dry.
Shelf life:
When stored properly, dried Seamoss lasts up to a year or more. It’s a powerful plant that doesn’t spoil easily when respected and kept dry.
How to Prepare Sea Moss Gel (Step-by-Step)
Making Sea Moss gel at home is easy, nourishing, and way more cost-effective than store-bought blends. We also have a video on our Instagram page you can watch. Otherwise, here’s how:
You’ll Need:
-
A handful of dried Seamoss (about 50-100 grams)
-
Filtered or spring water
-
A clean blender
-
A glass jar for storage
Instructions:
-
Rinse thoroughly – Remove any sand or sea debris by rinsing in cold water 3-5 times.
-
Soak overnight – Place in a bowl and cover with filtered water. Let it soak for 12–24 hours (no boiling needed).
-
Blend – Once soft and expanded, blend with fresh water until it reaches a smooth, gel-like consistency.
-
Store – Pour into a clean jar and refrigerate. We notice the sea moss gel last longer and have less of an ocean smell when we leave the lid loose or even off, allowing the sea moss to breath.
How to Store Sea Moss Gel
-
Store in the refrigerator for up to 2–4 weeks. Add fresh lemon juice to extend shelf life.
-
For long-term storage, freeze it in ice cube trays and use a cube or two daily
-
Keep the jar clean and avoid contamination (always use a clean spoon)
How to Use Sea Moss Gel
Now that it’s ready, here are a few ways to use it:
-
Blend into smoothies
-
Add to tea or cacao
-
Mix into soups or sauces
-
Apply to skin as a face mask
-
Stir into porridge or overnight oats
Recommended dose: 1–8 tablespoons per day for maintenance or more
